Jodhpur: Four house servants of a renowned handicraft businessman decamped with a huge amount of jewellery and cash after feeding the family spiked food on Saturday night. While fleeing with the loot, they also took the car of the businessman, which was later found abandoned in Kuchaman in Nagaur district on Sunday afternoon.
The total value of the loot has not been ascertained as the police are waiting for the owner of the house to regain consciousness. The jewellery and cash along with other valuables looted from the house are believed to be worth a few crores. During the incident, they broke CCTV cameras in and outside the house and locked all the entry gates using remote controls. They also took away mobile phones of the all members in the house, which they broke and threw away enroute. DCP (East) Amrita Duhan said that a report has been filed on the complaint of the daughter of the businessman, who somehow managed to come out from the effect of the drug, while the businessman and his two drivers have yet to recover fully.
The incident took place at a technically insulated house of handicraft businessman Ashok Chopra, who was in the house with his younger daughter Ankita, his mother and grandson apart from two drivers in the house on Saturday night. “Four house help, including a female, are said to have spike the food of the family and two drivers on Saturday night, sparing the businessman’s mother and grandson. They fled with a huge amount of jewellery and cash in the night itself after the family fell unconscious,” said Duhan.
All the accused were from Nepal and two of them had been called for job by female maid Laxmi on fake identities. Thus, police suspect that the loot had been planned long back. Laxmi had been employed to take care of Chopra’s mother about 4 years back while the other servants had been hired barely 3 months back.
