Ramban police foils a major bovine smuggling bid, rescues 112 animals

JAMMU: Acting tough against the bovine smugglers and to curb the bovine smuggling menace in the district, the Ramban police on Tuesday seized eleven (11) vehicles and rescued 112 animals from being smuggled to Kashmir valley.

"Acting on the specific inputs regarding transportation of bovine animals, different police parties of P/S Batote, P/S Chanderkote, P/S Ramban and P/S Dharamkumd intercepted 11 different vehicles (JK14H-6958, JK02AR-8377, JK22-7299, JK02CU-9862, JK19A-1225, JK19A-1102, JK02CD-9921, JK19A-1102 and JK02AU-4456) which were on their way from Jammu towards Srinagar," Ramban police said here today.

"On checking of all the above-mentioned vehicles, police teams found 112 bovine animals loaded in these vehicles with utmost cruelty and without any arrangements of food and water besides these animals were being transported to the valley illegally i.e. without any permission of competent authority."

Police said, "Hence all animals in total 112 were rescued under the Operation 'Kamdhenu', whereas one case was registered at PS Batote, five at PS Chanderkote, three in PS Ramban, and two were registered in PS Dharamkund under relevant sections of law and investigation set into motion."

The overall rescue operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Ramban Ms Mohita Sharma IPS.
