'I cannot live anymore': Social media influencer Ronisha Satti attempts suicide, alleges harassment by fiance; he denies charges
JAMMU: A Jammu-based Instagram influencer, Ronisha Satti, is undergoing treatment in hospital after allegedly attempting suicide following what she described in a series of social media videos as sustained harassment, online defamation and inaction by authorities.
In a statement to ANI, Satti linked her actions to prolonged mental distress and alleged that she was pushed to the brink by continued harassment.
“First of all, I want to say that no one should ever do this. Life is precious. But when someone is harassed this much, they are left with no other option. I am not that kind of girl, but I was pushed so much that I had to take this step because the police did not support me,” she said.
She alleged that she had been targeted after a relationship breakdown with Prashant Sharma, and that private content was circulated online.
“Prashant Sharma and I were in a relationship and were supposed to get married. Our personal videos and conversations were leaked on that page. Everything was done in a very disgusting way,” she alleged.
Satti further claimed that although an FIR had now been filed, the accused family had gone missing.
“The police have finally filed an FIR now, but I heard that the entire family has fled Jammu and their phones are switched off. If they are so innocent, why are they running away? I just want justice. No girl should have to go through this,” she said.
Her mother, Reena Satti, alleged repeated harassment and a lack of protection from authorities.
“We were followed, harassed, and when I pleaded for my daughter's safety, no one helped. If something happens to my daughter, who will be responsible? I want justice. If I don't get justice within five days, I will end my life. The responsibility will be on the JK Police, the Crime Branch,” she said.
Ronisha’s brother, Atish Satti, also alleged stalking, hacking attempts and mental torture.
“My sister Ronisha Satti faced harassment, stalking, and mental torture from people, including Prashant Sharma, Parikshit Gupta, and Riya Gupta. Her social media account was being hacked. The state police and the cybercrime department are not helping us. Our pleas for protection were ignored,” he said.
In a separate video posted before the alleged suicide attempt, Satti said she could not continue living under the pressure.
“I cannot live anymore. All the proofs one can take from my lawyer. I never thought of doing such things on social media. I am going to kill myself,” she said.
However, Prashant Sharma’s lawyer, Advocate Rajat Gupta, presented a different version of events, saying the relationship had been formalised with a ring ceremony and later deteriorated amid allegations from both sides.
“They (Prashant and Ronisha) were in a love relationship since September 2024, and later they formalised it with a ring ceremony in Jammu, attended by family members. From the start, Ronisha told my client, Prashant, she wanted to settle down. He agreed, and over time fulfilled her wishes with luxury shopping and expensive gifts worth several lakhs. When Prashant pressed for marriage, her family repeatedly delayed,” he added.
“Later, they began abusing and threatening him, saying they never intended marriage. He was shocked to learn she was legally married before, with proceedings for dissolution pending. He filed a police complaint against Ronisha and her family, and the investigation concluded it was fraud, cheating, and conspiracy. A chargesheet was filed.”
“Subsequently, Ronisha filed her own complaint, alleging that Prashant refused marriage and tried to defame her with posts and videos. Police investigated, but my client denied owning those social media pages. Meanwhile, Ronisha’s brother tried to hack Prashant’s social media accounts, leading to a cyber complaint. After the FIR, Prashant approached the Court, which stayed the investigation,” he said.
