Smuggler killed, another hurt in police encounter

Jaisalmer: A smuggler was killed, while another was injured in firing at Chibi village under Gida police station in Barmer district on Friday evening. The deceased, identified as Omaram, a resident of Bhojasar, had escaped from police custody in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra in April and police had been searching for him. He died during treatment. The injured Kosalram, has been referred to Jodhpur in critical condition. Cases under NDPS Act and murder attempt against both the smugglers have been registered. Polcie said, Jodhpur rural police and district special team had received information that the location of both criminals were seen in Gida. On Friday evening Jodhpur and Barmer police jointly near Chibi village started the action to arrest them. Police tried to stop their vehicles following which the smugglers started firing and police in self-defence started counter firing. There are nine cases against Koslaram, while seven cases were registered against Omaram.
