Rajasthan HC notice to Centre, state for disparity in exam fee
JAIPUR: Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), a division bench of Rajasthan High Court issued notices on Saturday, to government of India through department of personnel and training, the secretary of ministry of human resource development, the secretary of the ministry of finance, the secretary of the ministry of social justice and empowerment, and the state government, in connection to the examination fee taken for recruitments in the Central government and state government
In the public interest litigation, the petitioner Sujeet through his counsel Sajid Ali said that he has filed the litigation to ensure economic justice to the unemployed/students with no source of income who appear for various competitive exams for jobs in the Central government and state government services.
“There are no guidelines for the quantum of fee for the application forms of various recruitment tests and it is fixed arbitrarily. Also it is seen that the exam conducting institutions have made the exam a profit-making enterprise, wherein they fleece the unemployed students having no source of income,” said Sajid Ali while talking to TOI on Saturday.
Ali added that it is also seen that for SC/ST and female unemployed students appearing for various competitive exams, there is a different fee, while for general candidates, the fee is different. “It is also seen that candidates of general category are charged higher, sometimes double the amount, than other categories. Even the discounted cost of fee for SC/ST is charged from general category,” he added.
While the petitioner sought intervention of the court, the court comprising Justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice N S Dhadda issued notices to the respondents for reasonable fixation of fee.
