CM Sharma orders strict action against officials for poor-quality road construction
Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Thursday directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring of road construction works and ordered strict action against officers and engineers found responsible for substandard construction.
He said misuse or wastage of public funds would not be tolerated at any level, and accountability must be fixed wherever quality standards are compromised.
Chairing a meeting of the public works department at his residence, Sharma emphasised that all road projects should adhere to high-quality standards and be completed within stipulated timelines. He instructed officials of the NHAI and PWD to work in coordination to expedite construction works.
The CM also reviewed ongoing and proposed development works in Bharatpur, his home district, and directed officials to accord top priority to their timely completion. He called for comprehensive action plans to address persistent issues such as waterlogging, road widening, drainage improvement, development of sports facilities and upgradation of public parks. Sharma said future requirements and public expectations should be kept in mind while implementing development projects.
The CM also conducted a review of proposed Greenfield Expressway projects and discussed measures to improve connectivity between Jalore and Jhalawar, Shriganganagar and Kotputli, and Ajmer and Banswara. He also reviewed plans for the northern section of Jaipur’s Ring Road aimed at strengthening the city’s traffic management system.
Sharma further assessed the progress of national highway projects across the state and directed officials to accelerate ongoing works. He reviewed projects related to the strengthening and renewal of state highways, major district roads, other district roads and rural roads.
Officials informed the CM that during the current govt's tenure of two years and five months, road development works covering 48,748 km were completed at Rs 33,195 crore. They stated that during a similar period under the previous govt, road construction works were carried out over 30,641 km with an expenditure of Rs 13,400 crore.
