Jaisalmer: Deaths of two more children by drowning in Barmer district were reported on Monday. Rahul, 8, and Pukhraj, 7, on Sunday went out to graze their goats in Padarli Kala village under Siwana police station, and while returning in the evening at about 8pm, tried to bathe in a rainwater-filled pit, in which both drowned.
The local administration reached the spot on Sunday night but could not find the bodies. The rescue operation was started again on Monday morning and the bodies were recovered, police said.
Including this Siwana area incident, six persons, including four children and one man in Barmer and one child in Jaisalmer district, have died in four separate incidents of drowning since the cyclone Biparjoy caused heavy
rain in the desert region.
There has also been a rise in cases of snake bites after heavy rains in Barmer.
On Sunday night, within a few hours, 19 people bitten by snakes were brought to the district’s Chohtan hospital
The condition of everyone is stable and they will be discharged soon, said Chohtan hospital incharge Dr
Ashok Panwar.
