Khargone: A pregnant woman delivered a baby inside a stranded 108 emergency vehicle after it broke down on a bridge near Ankawadi village in Khargone district.Health officials said the incident occurred in Gogawan block on Sunday night when Sanju, who was in advanced labour, was being taken to a healthcare facility and the ambulance developed a mechanical fault before stopping on the bridge.Bistan primary health centre nursing officer Neha Kadam told media persons that ASHA worker Bhavana Sisodiya alerted her that the baby’s head had already emerged and that the lives of both mother and child were at risk. Subsequently, she rushed to the spot and with assistance of staff members, conducted the delivery inside the ambulance.Gogawan block medical officer Dr Ahmed Khan told TOI that another ambulance was arranged to transport the mother and the baby to Bistan PHC. Later, after primary treatment, they were refeerred to the district hospital.He said the woman, who was undergoing her third delivery, gave birth to a baby girl weighing 2.5 kg. Both were discharged on Monday after their condition was found to be stable.Chief medical and health officer Dr Daulat Singh Chauhan told TOI that a report on the incident was submitted to collector Bhavya Mittal, seeking action against the ambulance service provider and informing the administration about the circumstances that led to the emergency delivery.
