Indore: Seven persons, including a patient on oxygen, had a harrowing time after a lift of a private hospital got stuck on the 10th floor on Thursday evening. The patient was rushed to

ICU

as soon as staff managed to get the lift back in order.

While the victims alleged that the elevator was stuck for an hour, the hospital management said it was no more than five minutes. Among the seven were a patient on a stretcher, a nurse, some visitors and a liftman.

Poonam Solanki

, a resident of

Musakhedi

, said: “It was an hour of terror as the lift remained stuck on the tenth floor of the hospital. There was an elderly patient with us who was having difficulty breathing. It got suffocating for all of us in the lift as the hospital staff couldn’t open it for an hour.”

Solanki, who said she had visited the hospital to see her aunt, said she was afraid she’d fall unconscious. “Thankfully, the nurse and others stuck in the lift helped me remain conscious by sprinkling water on my face,” she said. “There was nothing to panic about, as the lift was stuck due to a technical glitch. The staff restarted it and opened it in five minutes. There were no issues as our staff nurse was also there and managed the patient carefully,” Dr Vivek Joshi, the hospital superintendent, said.
