No Sholay this, cops bust ‘Jai-Veeru’ gang
Indore: What’s in a name? But, it’s the name of a theft gang, ‘Jai Veeru’, which can remind you friendship displayed in Bollywood iconic film ‘Sholay’.
The gang had been stealing two-wheelers from different areas across the city. Coordination and friendship between each member of ‘Jai Veeru’ gang was just like Jai and Veeru in the Bollywood flick.
Police on Tuesday arrested eight members – 21-year-old Vishal alias Pandit, Bhola (19), Rahul alias Bhola (21), Arun (19), Yogesh Jatav, Jagdeesh Patel and Mithun alias Radhe Doriya - of the gang. As many as 21 stolen vehicles were recovered from their possession. They had changed registration plate of the vehicle and put up a fake number for selling them.
“Since all the accused were close friends and trusted each other, they had named their gang Jai Veeru. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC,” ASP Amrendra Singh said.
During questioning, the accused told police that they had stolen the vehicles from parking lot at hospitals, religious areas, liquor shops or other public places. The accused also had master keys with them, while sometimes they jump started the vehicles.
The accused told police that Arun is kingpin of the gang and had been lifting vehicles for many years. He said that he would steal vehicles, use them by changing numbers and then abandon them into gorges.
Vishal was responsible for selling stolen vehicles by finding potential customers. He admitted to have committed two dozen crimes. Police have seized17 two-wheelers were from him.
