No outside food for hostellers, mess menu to get a makeover
Indore: In a bid to promote consumption of mess food and enhance the dining experience within campus, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has decided to impose restrictions on its hostel students ordering meal boxes from external vendors. The move comes as a response to the growing trend among hostel students opting for meals from outside sources, bypassing the university's mess facilities.A uniform menu will be prepared for all hostels of the university to maintain uniformity in the food served to students. The decision was taken recently by vice chancellor Renu Jain while she held a meeting with the hostel wardens. The university administration aims to ensure that hostel students have a more integrated dining experience and make the most of the in-house meal options. According to university officials, the decision is also driven by concerns about maintaining hygiene standards and nutritional balance among students."We have noticed that a significant number of our hostel students are increasingly relying on food deliveries from external vendors. While we encourage students to have choices, we also want to ensure their health and well being. Our mess facilities are equipped to provide nutritious meals, and we believe this step will encourage students to explore these options," said CL Prajapati, chief warden at DAVV. The university authorities have assured students that steps will be taken to enhance the quality and variety of meals provided in the mess. With the hostels at DAVV witnessing admissions of new students, the university has decided to regularly monitor the food quality with mess and kitchen inspections by flying squads at all the eight hostels of the university. The decision came in view of the hostellers complaining about the quality and taste of food in the mess. Students feedback will also be taken on the taste and quality of food for improvements and changes accordingly. “We are preparing a comprehensive menu for every week of the month which will be same for all the hostels. All the wardens are working on the menu and will share it with the VC for approval,” added Prajapati. As per the VC’s recommendations, millets will also be included in menu for the students promoting healthy food for hostellers.
