Khargone: A 50-year-old woman was allegedly axed to death by her husband early Monday at Galtar village in Bistan police station area of Khargone district.
Bistan police station in-charge Gulab Singh Rawat told
TOI that Vishan allegedly attacked his wife, Sayada Bai, inflicting fatal injuries on her neck and chest with an axe. The boy managed to flee after the attack. At the time of the attack, the woman was sleeping with her 11-year-old grandson, while the couple’s son, Kamal and his children were asleep in another room.
Rawat said, “Vishan fought with his wife frequently suspecting her character. Owing to these disputes, Sayada earlier left the village and went to live with her daughter, Rehna, in Indore.”
He said Vishan was injured in an accident about six months ago, following which Sayada returned to take care of him. However, despite her return, the couple’s disputes reportedly continued.
Rawat said the accused was short-tempered and prone to extreme reactions. He cited an earlier incident in which Vishan allegedly cut down a jamun tree planted at his home after some children plucked its fruits. Police said he was known to be socially isolated and had a few, if any, close friends.
Following information provided by his son Kamal on Monday morning, police registered a
murder case and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused, who remained absconding.
