Indore: The city witnessed an unusually cool start to June as pre-monsoon showers and strong winds pushed the minimum temperature down to 18.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, making it the coldest June night recorded in the city in the past six years. The temperature remained just 0.2 degrees above the six-year record of 18.4 degrees Celsius registered on June 4, 2020.The departure of Nautapa, traditionally associated with intense summer heat across central India, came with an unexpected spell of cool weather this year. According to the Met, rainfall and gusty winds between the evening and late-night hours brought a dramatic change in weather conditions across the city. The weather observatory at the airport recorded 0.4 inches of rain, while the maximum temperature settled at 38.5 degrees Celsius. More notably, the night temperature was recorded seven degrees below the seasonal normal, giving residents a rare feeling of coolness during a month usually marked by scorching heat.Several parts of the city experienced dust storms followed by rain. Wind speeds touched 81 kilometre per hour during the weather activity, providing significant relief from the heat and humidity that had prevailed during the day. The rain also improved overall weather conditions, making outdoor temperatures more comfortable.Met officials attribute the sharp drop in temperature to active pre-monsoon systems that have been influencing weather across the region over the past several days. These systems have triggered frequent spells of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, preventing temperatures from rising sharply. The department has forecast continued cloud cover, rain and gusty winds over the next few days. As a result, there is little possibility of a major increase in temperature in the immediate future. Officials said that if rain activity remains strong, both day and night temperature could decline further, extending relief from the summer heat and creating unusually pleasant weather conditions for early June in Indore.
