Dhar: A delivery vehicle driver of Uttar Pradesh lost nearly two lakh from his bank account after his mobile phone was stolen while he was resting at a petrol pump in Dhar district. The incident is more than two months old but the victim turned up at the concerned police station and a case of fraud and theft was registered on Saturday late night.Sub-Inspector Pawan Kumar Gaur of Naugaon police station told TOI, “Lallan Verma, a resident of Unnao district in UP and employed with a private logistics company, was driving a goods vehicle from Indore to Ahmedabad on March 15, 2026. Feeling fatigued in the evening, he parked his vehicle at HP petrol pump situated at Utavad village on Indore- Ahmedabad highway. According to Lallan, his mobile phone was stolen by somebody, which he noticed when he woke up after about two hours. A few days later, Verma obtained a new SIM card and when he checked his bank balance, he found that Rs 2,01,860 had been withdrawn by someone through various transactions. During his trip on the same route, he reached the police station on Saturday and lodged his complaint. Unidentified person has been booked under relevant sections for theft of mobile phone and fraud.”Gaur further said that Naugaon police along with Dhar Cyber Cell regarding the mobile theft and subsequent fraudulent withdrawals. The Cyber Cell is now investigating bank transactions, mobile usage records, and other technical leads.
