‘Over 100 unrecognised pvt schools operating in Manipur’

Imphal: Over 100 private schools in Manipur have no proper infrastructure and were built without authorisation from the government, the Federal Students’ Organisation-Kangleipak (FESOK) said on Sunday. This presents a grim picture of the education sector in the state, it added. Speaking to media persons during the 2nd foundation day of FESOK here, its president Ronald Kenedy Longjam said schools should not be set up as a business model for profit, looking to extract money from students. He said FESOK would conduct a similar survey in government schools to assess the quality of education and resources and also initiate a drive against drug abuse on school campuses.Stating that the ongoing conflict has dealt a huge blow to the education sector, he urged both the state govt and the Centre to resolve the crisis.He said FESOK has decided to halt operations of unrecognised schools from the next academic session. Both the Board of Secondary Education Manipur and the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur have been urged to look into the matter and shut down all unauthorised schools, he added.

Safety compliance must in school buildings: Education commissioner

Commissioner Suraj Mandhare will advise local authorities to be careful when inspecting and granting safety certificates to school buildings. Measures will be taken to sensitize school management committees towards safety. Buildings, including schools, must follow the National Building Code of India.
