One killed in Manipur firing, arms looted from police armoury

Imphal: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries in sentry firing when a group of people attempted to storm the Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), while a mob looted arms and bullets from the armoury of the 5th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Imphal East district on Tuesday night.This came at a time when security forces and the police have stepped up search operations to recover more than 5,000 arms and ammunition looted by miscreants from police armories in the state since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3 last year. To date, around 1,800 weapons have been recovered, a source said.Though top police officials confirmed the looting of arms and ammunition from the IRB armoury at Chingrel in Imphal East district, they remained tightlipped on the number of the weapons. Sources in the force said at least 19 arms and a large number of bullets of different calibres were snatched from the post around 9.05 pm. Six persons have been arrested and remanded in police custody in connection with the incident. The arms include five SLRs, four AK 47 rifles, six .303 rifles, two INSAS rifles and as many LMGs.

Police encounter in Mahoba: Two wanted accused arrested, looted property recovered

Two wanted accused involved in a robbery and murder in Panwadi police station, Mahoba district, were arrested after being injured in a police encounter. The police successfully recovered 1.4 kg gold, 20 kg silver, and Rs 25 lakh. Three other wanted accused were also arrested.

Arms, ammo seized in Manipur

Assam Rifles personnel and Manipur Police seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Thoubal district. The recovery included hand grenades, a pistol, a revolver, and a rifle, according to an AR statement by K Sarojkumar Sharma. The weapons were found in the Pechi area during a joint search operation.
