Imphal: A local pressure group based in Thoubal district on Thursday started imposing a ban on the flow of essentials meant for people in Tengnopal district as a counter to groups in Moreh banning selling of essential items to state police commandos deployed at the town bordering Myanmar, reports K Sarojkumar Sharma.
Members of the group checked vehicles coming from Imphal along NH-39 at Thoubal district headquarters to find if they were carrying goods meant for the tribal community.
“We will continue our counter blockade along the Imphal-Moreh route in Thoubal till the ban on selling essential commodities to police at Moreh imposed by Tengnoupal village volunteers is lifted,” said Inaocha, treasurer of the Thoubal committee.
The “Meetei Coordinating Committee Tonglaobi to Torbung and Waikhurok” based in Bishnnupur will also prohibit flow of goods towards Churachandpur from Imphal valley.
