Imphal: Six prominent student bodies of Manipur have issued a unified plea to students and the public, asking them not to participate in Republic Day celebrations and use black flags instead as a symbolic protest. The student bodies, AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, which represent various segments of Manipuri society, expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of the government’s policies toward the crisis in Manipur. In a joint statement, the six organizations said the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki insurgents clearly indicated the use of such militant groups for counter-insurgency operations to destabilize Manipur. tnn
