‘Assaults on Nagas rising in Manipur’

Imphal: Condemning the series of attacks on Naga civilians by unknown persons, the Forum for Restoration of Peace, urged peaceful coexistence in Manipur. At a press briefing held at the Manipur Press Club on Monday, the Forum’s president, Ashang Kasar, said the government has seemingly failed to maintain law and order in the state. Narrating the various incidents of assaults on Naga civilians, Kasar said, “If such attacks continue unabated against the Nagas, it might create an unwarranted situation in the Naga-dominated districts of Manipur.” While every community is working to restore the sense of oneness and re-establish harmonious relations in the strife-torn state, he cautioned that such attacks will bring a terrifying level of disruption to the state's law and order. He urged the authorities concerned to nab the perpetrators and bring them to justice. On December 3, three Tangkhul youths were allegedly beaten by unidentified armed persons at Sawombung (Imphal-Ukhrul road) on their way back to Ukhrul from Imphal. One of the victims lodged a complaint with Ukhrul SP the following day. The victims were taken to Ukhrul district hospital for a medical check-up. The medical report said two of the victims bore bruises on their bodies.
