Waqf notice to Anwar-ul-Uloom

HYDERABAD: The long-drawn legal tussle between the Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) and Anwar-ul-Uloom group of educational institutions has intensified after the Waqf Board, for the first time, served notices for an inquiry into the matter following a recent order of the Hyderabad High Court.


Both Waqf Board and the educational institution have been engaged in a bitter

battle

over Anwar-ul-Uloom College, located at

Mallepally

, for over 15 years now. While TSWB has been saying that the land on which the college stands is waqf property, the educational institution has maintained that it is not so.

Officials of the Board stated that Anwar-ul-Uloom College in Mallepally, spread over 14,705.4 square yards, is on waqf property as per the 1965 survey commission report. Recently, a third party filed a writ petition in HC claiming that the land on which the college is constructed is waqf property and Anwar-ul-Uloom group has illegally occupied the entire area.

The court disposed of the petition directing Waqf Board CEO to serve notices to the correspondent of Anwar-ul-Uloom Society, represented by Mahboob Alam Khan, and inquire into the matter. “We have served consecutive notices to the correspondent of the institution asking them to come with all relevant documents,” informed Shahnawaz Qasim, CEO, TSWB.

The first notice was sent to Mahboob Alam Khan, chairman, Anwar-ul-Uloom group of educational institutions, 15 days ago after which he sent a representative to Waqf Board but without authorisation letter. The Board asked the representative to come back with authorisation letter. “They came with their advocate but did not bring relevant documents,” an SWB official said.
