The children were playing near the pool, which has a fountain in the middle, while their parents were standing some distance away. The children got into the pool enclosure and stood on the wall to play with water.
Suddenly , the fountain was turned on and the two children suffered electric shock. Due to the impact of electric shock, they fell into the water and drowned. The function hall authorities immediately switched off the power and the bodies of the kids were retrieved. The children were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Though the LB Nagar police initially said they could ascertain the reason for the children's death only after receiving the post-mortem report, Osmania General Hospital (OGH) forensic doctors examined the bodies and confirmed that the children had died due to an electric shock as they bore burns. The fountain is located in front of the main function hall, which is spread on a huge property . The depth of the pool is said to be about four feet. During the investigation, police found a motor and wires connected to the fountain and suspect that the mishap might have occurred due to poor wiring. “There is no CCTV camera at the location where the incident took place,“ police said.
“Manaswini's father Suresh Babu and Jithendra's father Shivaji are brothers. Both the families came to attend the marriage. When the tragedy took place, they were close by and immediately rushed to the fountain to save the children, but to no avail,“ sub-inspector Saidulu told TOI.
Based on the complaint given by Shivaji, a case was registered under section 304A (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code against the management of Subham Convention Center.
