This extremely heavy rainfall, caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal, resulted in 52 cm of rainfall in Thirumalayapalem in Khammam— the highest rainfall of the season in the state. Districts such as Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Suryapet too recorded very heavy rainfall exceeding 40 cm, leading to widespread damage in low-lying places.

Houses submerged

In Mahabubabad, the circumstances were dire as every home in Boddi Tanda was flooded. To escape from being swept away, residents seek refuge on their rooftops. The entire Nallela village in Mahabubabad, was submerged. The conditions in Kaviraj Nagar, Khammam, were no different. Manuguru in Kothagudem was not spared either, where the streets were flooded. Moreover, there was a power disruption in most parts of Khammam, Mahabubabad, Kothadugem, and Suryapet.
Rains hit train services
Heavy rains swept away the embankment under the railway tracks in Kesamudram of Mahabubabad, leading to train cancellations. Other affected trains include the Lingampally-Kakinada Gowthami Express, Gudur-Secunderabad Simhapuri Express, Vijayawada-Secunderabad Satavahana Express, Secunderabad-Guntur Intercity Express, Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Vande Bharat, and Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express. SCR has set up helplines at major stations: Hyderabad (9676904334), Secunderabad (040-27786140/170), Kazipet (0870-2576430), Warangal (9063328082), Khammam (08742224541), and Nalgonda (9701379966).
Highways affected
The Vijayawada-Hyderabad NH 65 has been badly affected by heavy rainfall, causing traffic disruptions at Suryapet. As a result, vehicles travelling from Hyderabad to Vijayawada were diverted through Narketpally Addanki and Khammam. Similarly, on the Hyderabad Warangal highway, a significant amount of floodwater accumulated near Raghunathpally, causing vehicles to be stranded for hours.
200 students rescued
The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) located in Arvapalli of Suryapet, found itself submerged due to heavy rainfall. The school campus was inundated with water, reaching waist-deep levels. This situation left 200 students and teachers stranded. The students were temporarily relocated from the flooded school and accommodated in a nearby function hall.

Connectivity hampered
As the lakes reached their maximum capacity, the bunds have breached. This led to a disruption of connectivity. One such incident occurred in Thopanpally in Mahabubabad. An RTC bus found itself stranded on the road as water from a lake surged onto the road, making it difficult for the vehicle to move. Consequently, 59 passengers who were trapped inside the bus throughout the night were evacuated on Sunday.
Snakes invade homes
The rainfall also led to snakes, including pythons, making their way into residential areas. On Saturday night, a python was found in Masjid Ahmed-E-Khatoon in Hasan Nagar, Old City. The floodwaters brought venomous snakes into people’s homes in Manuguru, causing concern and fear among the residents.
