KARIMNAGAR: A young girl raped and murdered by a labourer at a rice mill in Peddapalli district of Telangana, according to police reports on Friday.
The suspect, identified as Balaram (35) from Madhya Pradesh, has been taken into custody and charged under the POCSO Act.
M Sreenivasulu, the Ramagundam Police Commissioner, stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day at a camp within the rice mill compound in Sultanabad.
"The accused took the minor girl (6) sleeping with her mother at a camp within the rice mill compound in the wee hours of today. He raped her and when the girl raised an alarm, he throttled her neck and killed," he said.
Local residents who had gathered at the scene apprehended the accused, and he was subsequently arrested by the police. A case has been registered against him for rape and murder, with additional charges under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The victim's body has been sent to a government hospital for a postmortem examination, as confirmed by the Commissioner.
