Southwest monsoon in Telangana: IMD issues yellow alert for several districts
HYDERABAD: As the southwest monsoon advances across Telangana, rainfall activity is set to intensify over the coming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of up to 40-50 kmph across several districts.
According to the meteorological centre in Hyderabad, the southwest monsoon entered Jogulamba Gadwal district on Sunday, and conditions remain favourable for its further advance into the remaining parts of Telangana over the next two to three days. The weather office said a trough extending from East Uttar Pradesh to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, passing through northeast Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, continues to influence weather conditions over the region.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana, with rainfall activity expected to intensify and occur at many places between June 9 and June 14. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for isolated places in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool districts.
On Tuesday, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda and Nagarkurnool districts. Similar warnings have been issued for parts of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts on Wednesday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places across all districts on June 9, 10 and 11, while several districts are expected to continue experiencing such conditions until June 14. The weather office said there is no forecast of any significant change in maximum temperatures across Telangana over the next three days.
The centre noted that Khammam recorded the highest rainfall in the state on Monday at 19.2 mm, followed by Hanamkonda at 9.4 mm and Ramagundam at 1.5 mm. No rainfall was recorded at the Hyderabad, Dundigal, Hayathnagar, Patancheru and Rajendranagar observatories.
