Belagavi: City police commissioner Bhushan Borase said that Camp Police cracked a theft case in which gold ornaments worth Rs 1.2 crore were stolen from the house of an elderly doctor couple. Two people were arrested in the case, one of whom was appointed as the caretaker, fled with the gold. The police recovered the ornaments worth Rs 73.3 lakh, and the investigation is still under way.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Borase said that the accused were identified as Rahul Kamble and Babasaheb Katageri. Rahul Kamble was appointed as the caretaker. Rahul, who was constantly visiting the house, collected information about gold ornaments in a locker inside the house.
Over the past three months, from Dec to Feb, Rahul gradually stole gold ornaments without raising any suspicion. Investigation revealed that a total of 930g gold ornaments worth Rs 1.2 crore was stolen.
Investigation revealed that the stolen ornaments were pawned by the co-accused Babasaheb Katageri at Muthoot Finance. Police conducted an operation based on technical information and specific clues and arrested the two accused.
The stolen gold were seized from the accused, he said.
Bhushan Borase requested the public not to keep many gold ornaments at home but to keep them safely in bank lockers. Police commissioner praised the Camp police for cracking the case, and announced that the police and staff who worked hard to solve the case will be given appropriate awards by the department.
