Onus on younger generation to retain Dharwad’s rich cultural heritage: DC
Dharwad: Deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu said Dharwad has found a special place in literary, music, art and cultural fields due to the achievements and contributions of several eminent personalities and the onus of retaining its rich cultural heritage lies on the younger generation.
Divya who visited the residences of pioneer of Karnataka Unification Movement Alur Venkatrao, Jnanpith awardee poet laureate Da Raa Bendre, Hindustani vocalists Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru, painter DV Halabhavi and writer MM Kalburgi in whose memory trusts have been formed, interacted with the chairpersons and trustees and sought to know about their activities. Later,she held a common meeting with the members of all the trusts and Suvarna cultural complex.the
She said musical evenings will be organised in different parts of the state by all the trusts in memory of Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, saint Shishunal Shareef, Sawai Gandharva, Pt Mansur and Pt Rajguru.
Divya directed the Rangayana administrative officer to prepare an action plan to organise summer camps to train children in literature, music and art with the help of all the trusts. Responding to the demand for revival of Dharwad Utsav, the DC said she will discuss the matter with the officials concerned and send a proposal to govt.

M Venkateshkumar of Mansur Trust, Parvati Halabhavi, B Maruti of Halabhavi Trust; Danayya Mahantayya Hiremath of Bendre Trust, Chandrakant Bellad and Nijaguni Rajguru of Rajguru Trust; chairman of MM Kalburgi Trust Veeranna Rajur, members Shashidhar Todkar, GM Hegde, Rangayana director Raju Talikoti and others were present.
