Karnad says he's retired from films
HUBLI: Jnanpith laureate playwright Girish Karnad has said that he was doing films for money, and that he has now retired from that field.
"I was into films for money, but now I'm retired," he told reporters on the sidelines of Pleiades, a three-day national-level technical fest that began at BVB College of Engineering and Technology here on Thursday.

Karnad said that one should either get good roles or more money to keep going. "But when you are not getting either of them, there is no point in making films. Young people should get opportunity in films, as it is their medium. That's how we were benefited when we were young..." he said.
On novelist S L Bhyrappa being chosen for the prestigious Saraswati Samman for his novel `Mandra', Karnad said he had recommended Bhyrappa for the same honour 10 years ago. "I'm on Saraswati Samman jury. For the past 10 years, I have been writing to Saraswati people that he (Bhyrappa) deserves it. I'm glad that he has got it now," he said.
