DHARWAD: The chairman of Dr Da Raa Bendre National Memorial Trust, M M Kalburgi, has resigned from his post. In a letter to the director of department of Kannada and Culture, Kalburgi said he was quitting as he had completed his term of three years. He had sent his resignation letter six months ago requesting to be relieved of his responsibilities and duties.

"I believe that I should not hold any public position for more than three years. My repeated requests to relieve me of the post have not been heeded so far. Therefore I am getting relieved suo motto today. Henceforth, I do not have any administrative relation with the Trust," Kalburgi said.
Rumours were rife that noted critic Giraddi Govindraj was tipped for the post of chairman of the Bendre National Memorial Trust. Former vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, M I Savadatti, is also said to be being considered for the post.
