CBI raids RMS Belagavi in probe into alleged financial irregularities
Belagavi: A CBI team raided Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Belagavi, on Wednesday morning as part of a probe into alleged financial irregularities. The operation continued through the evening and may extend into Thursday, sources said.
Sources said the team comprised around 12 officials led by a deputy SP), along with four personnel from military intelligence. The team examined documents and questioned school authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.
The raid is linked to allegations of financial improprieties, irregularities in procurement procedures, and possible misuse of funds over several years. The probe follows a complaint filed with the ministry of defence by whistleblower and RMS alumnus Manjunath Banashankari.
In his complaint, Banashankari sought urgent intervention, calling for disclosure of financial records, a comprehensive audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and an independent inquiry into the institution’s financial and administrative functioning over the past five to eight years.
Attempts to contact RMS principal Lt Col Seema Bisht were unsuccessful.
RMS Belagavi, one of five Rashtriya Military Schools in the country, operates under the Ministry of Defence. Established in 1945, the institution was formerly known as the Royal Indian Military School and is considered a premier feeder institution for the armed forces.
