HUBLI: `Samvada Kanda Andatta', a compilation of Dr Vaman Bendre's literary works, will be released during his 76th birthday celebrations to be held at Viswashrama Chetana here at 11 am on July 28.
Born on July 28, 1935, to Da Raa Bendre and Laxmibai Bendre at Ranebennur, Vaman penned a thesis on poet Lakshmeesha's `Jaimini Bharata' under the guidance of R S Mugali.
This fetched him a doctorate from
Pune University in 1967.
His anthologies in Kannada include `Modalu Todalu', `Ananta Dhare', `Spandana', `Olave Balavu', and `Srushti'. His play-writing skills are expressed in volumes `Soni Ganappa Banda', `Sparsha' and 30 radio plays.
He has also produced works of literary criticism, including `Bendre Kavya Lolaka', `Laksmeesha Kavi-Kavya Parampare', `Laksmeesha __ a study', and `Bendre Belaku'. His work `Bendre Jeevana Parichaya' is a major biography of Da Raa Bendre while his research works include `Bendre Sankhya Yoga', and `Bendre Haagu Vignana'.
Vaman is a renowned translator and his Kannada translations include Marathi plays `Kalaya Thasmai Namaha' (by C T Khanolakar), `Nata Saamrat' (V V Shirvadkar), `Kalsudtrava Kalu' (
Vijay Tendulkar), and Kosala (Balachandra Nemadi).
