Woman gang-raped in Kamrup

GUWAHATI: A newly-wed woman was allegedly gang-raped by at least seven persons in Kamrup district’s Rangiya, some 50 km from the city, on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old woman, currently in a hospital in the city, said she was gang-raped while returning from a friend’s place near Kekurikuchi with her husband.
Police arrested three of the accused — Pankaj Das, a relative of the woman, Tilak Das and Nareswar Das — on Friday morning.
A senior police officer in Kamrup district said, “The woman’s husband was severely beaten up. She was taken to a nearby jungle where she was repeatedly raped. Four others are still at large and a search is on.”
The absconding persons were identified as Sonmoni Das, Prabhat Das, Satish Das and Dipak Das.
