Nagaon election results 2024 live updates: CONG's Pradyut Bordoloi wins
NEW DELHI: The Nagaon constituency in Assam witnessed a closely contested election, with Pradyut Bordoloi of the Indian National Congress emerging victorious, securing 788,850 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Suresh Borah of the Bharatiya Janata Party, by a margin of 212,231 votes. Borah received 576,619 votes, falling short of Bordoloi's tally.
Aminul Islam of the All India United Democratic Front finished third with 137,340 votes, trailing the winner by a significant margin of 651,510 votes. Independent candidate Sikha Sarma secured 6,620 votes, while other independent candidates, Samsul Alam, Bipad Bhanjan Sarkar, Nikhil Dekaraja, Abu Shama, and Abu Eusuf Md Raihan Uddin, received 5,069, 4,885, 3,627, 2,238, and 2,030 votes, respectively.
Anupam Baruah of the Jai Prakash Janata Dal polled 4,319 votes, and Rabbul Haque of the Rashtriya Ulama Council received 2,559 votes. Santanu Mukherjee of the Bharatiya Gana Parishad and Saiful Islam Choudhury of the Asom Jana Morcha secured 2,010 and 1,837 votes, respectively. The NOTA (None of the Above) option was chosen by 11,995 voters in the constituency.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Nagaon, a significant constituency in Upper Assam, exhibited a voter turnout of 84.97% during Phase 2 on April 26. Covering the districts of Morigaon and Nagaon, this rural, general reservation seat is a pivotal political battleground in North East India.
