DIBRUGARH: Jharkhand chief minister and senior BJP leader Arjun Munda on Friday urged the people of the state to throw Congress out of power and bring an end to "a reign of corruption" in Assam.
Addressing a huge election rally at at Jeraigaon the ancestral village of Ulfa commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah in Dibrugarh district, he said, "The Congress has been indulging in rampant corruption in the state and neglecting the interests of the people."
"During its 50 years of rule in Assam, the Congress has always neglected the welfare of the indigenous people, the Adivasis and the tea tribes.

The pace of growth has stalled completely. Corruption has touched an unbelievable high, while price of essential commodities have skyrocketed because of their wrong policies," he said.
"Give the BJP a chance and we'll ensure a transparent, corruption-free and efficient government to the people of the state," Munda said, while seeking vote for Binod Hazarika, the BJP candidate for Chabua. Jeraigaon comes under the Chabua assembly constituency. Munda pledged that BJP would give maximum importance to peace if it was voted to power in the state.
Munda also took a dig at the Congress government, accusing it of neglecting the welfare of the tea tribes. "The Congress claims that it champions the tea tribes' cause. But in reality, their wage structure is lowest among all tea gardens in the country. The tea tribes also do not enjoy much facilities in the healthcare and education sectors," he added.
