Thar on wrong side rams bike, man dies in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: A 41-year-old petrol pump employee died after his motorcycle was hit head-on by a modified white Mahindra Thar approaching from the wrong side near Vyapar Kendra in Sushant Lok on Wednesday morning.The deceased, Mukesh Baghel, was a resident of Hodal in Palwal district and worked at a petrol pump in Sector 44. According to his colleagues, he was on his way to work around 11.30am when the incident happened. He was on his Splendor motorcycle when the Thar, coming from the wrong side, collided with him. Baghel was rushed to Paras Hospital, where he died during treatment.
The driver of the SUV fled the spot while police seized the vehicle, which did not carry any number plates. Baghel's family found out when his brother called him to wish him on Holi, but a police officer picked up the phone and informed him about the accident."We were all celebrating Holi. He was supposed to come home and celebrate with us. However, he could not get leave and had to stay back. Around noon, I called him to wish him, but instead of him, a police officer picked up the call. The celebrations turned into sorrow for all of us," said Baghel's brother Ashok Kumar.He added that Baghel's wife fainted multiple times since the incident. "We took her to the hospital twice. Their children are very young, aged 10 and 12. A family has been destroyed," he added. Baghel was the sole breadwinner of the family.Kumar said Baghel lived in Gurgaon for around 20 years. He joined the Sector 44 petrol pump in May 2025, and worked at another fuel station nearby for several years before that, according to his family.Based on the complaint and medical documents, aAn FIR was registered at Sushant Lok police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS, along with Sections 39/192(1) (driving without registration) of the Motor Vehicles Act. "A team from the Sushant Lok police station took the Thar into custody from the site. The accused in the case will be arrested soon," police spokesperson ASI Sandeep Turan said.Police are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and trace the driver.In a separate incident, a 28-year-old delivery executive died after an allegedly speeding pickup truck rammed his motorcycle near Mall 51 in Sector 51 around 3.30am Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Sahrab Ali, a native of Dakshin Dinajpur district in West Bengal, who lived on rent in Wazirabad village. He worked with Country Delight in Sector 47.According to a complaint filed by his brother-in-law, Salman, Sahrab was heading from home to work when a Mahindra Bolero Maxx hit his motorcycle head-on. The driver, identified as Hannaan, a resident of Utawad village in Palwal district, was speeding and driving rashly. In this case, too, the driver fled the spot after the incident.The impact was so severe that the pickup vehicle crashed into nearby trees and electric poles before overturning at the spot. The motorcycle was also badly damaged.Police said the motorist, Sharab Ali, was taken to Artemis Hospital in Sector 51, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. The body was later shifted to the mortuary for postmortem.The pickup bore a temporary registration number, and police also recorded the chassis number of the vehicle as part of the investigation. An FIR was registered at Sector 50 police station under BNS sections 281 and 106."Photos of the accident scene were taken and both vehicles were taken into custody," an officer added.In a third incident, a 25-year-old man was found critically injured on a village road in Kakrola and later died at a govt hospital, with police suspecting a hit-and-run accidentinvolving an unknown vehicle.The deceased was identified as Ashok, a resident of Harijan Mohalla in Kakrola village. According to his elder brother, Deepak, Ashok left home on the evening of March 3 after consuming alcohol. On Wednesday around 7am, villagers informed the family that Ashok was lying injured near the house of a local doctor.Ashok was brought to a nearby govt hopsital where he was declared dead on arrival. Deepak said the family arranged an ambulance and shifted Ashok to the govt hospital in Gurgaon, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. "We received information that an unidentified person was brought dead to the govt hospital. A police team reached the hospital, obtained the medico-legal papers and recorded Deepak's statement," an officer said.Based on the injuries and circumstances, police suspect that Ashok was hit by a speeding vehicle whose driver fled the spot without offering help. No eyewitnesses have come forward so far. An FIR was registered at Kherki Daula police station under sections 281 and 106 of BNS, police said.Police said the body was sent for postmortem, and teams are checking the area for CCTV cameras and other clues to identify the vehicle involved.
