GURGAON: Police have filed a 78-page chargesheet against cow vigilante Mohit Yadav alias Monu Manesar, who was taken into custody in September by a police team probing the July 31 Nuh riots, though this case dates back to February when he was booked under attempt to murder charges in Pataudi.
This is the first chargesheet against Monu, who is currently lodged in Bhondsi jail.
The 32-year-old is also accused of posting a provocative video after the Nuh riots and is being probed by Rajasthan Police as well for the murders of two men — Nasir and Junaid — whose charred bodies were found in Bhiwani after they were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes near the Haryana-Rajasthan border in Nuh.
According to the chargesheet, a bullet fired by Monu and his group hit a bystander, injuring him, after an argument with another group escalated into a fight in Pataudi’s Babbarshah mohallah on February 6.
That day, a scuffle broke out after Monu was called by his friend Pawan, who claims to be a Bajrang Dal member from Rewari, to “teach a lesson” to Shoaib and others, the chargesheet says. Pawan told Monu that Shoaib was harassing his brother-in-law Rakesh, according to a neighbour’s statement cited in the chargesheet.
Monu then reached Pataudi with his associates, after which one of them called Shoaib and allegedly said: “Tera jija Monu Manesar aaya hua hai. Aa jao.” Shoaib and his men arrived at the spot soon after and damaged Monu’s SUV. In retaliation, Monu’s group pelted stones, threw glass bottles and fired multiple rounds. It was then that one of the bullets hit 20-year-old Moheen who was passing by. Monu and his associates allegedly fled the spot after collecting an empty shell of bullets.
Moheen was rushed to a hospital for treatment, and his father filed the attempt to murder case on February 7.
Police have listed 28 witnesses in the case, trial for which will begin at a Pataudi court from November 30. Asked about the case, Monu’s counsel Kulbhushan Bharadwaj said he will present his client’s side before the sessions court.

Chargesheet against 6 more Maoists in 2021 Chandigarh case
NIA chargesheets 6 more CPI (Maoist) cadres in the case related to the 2021 Naxal attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. The attack resulted in the death of 22 security personnel. The chargesheet, filed in the NIA special court, names Manoj Podiyami, Mula Devender Reddy, Vijja Hemla, Kesha Sodi, Mallesh, and Sonu. They have been charged under UAPA, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and the IPC. Earlier, 40 accused were charged in the same case, including 23 named in the original chargesheet and 17 in the supplementary chargesheet. The NIA stated that the attack was carried out by CPI (Maoist) cadres under the direction of top leaders.
