PONDA: A pall of gloom hangs heavy over the house where Yogita Naik lived till that fateful day in January when she left hoping to meet the man she planned to marry. Instead, she met a horrible death and left behind a family that is now struggling to come to terms with her murder. In their grief, the only solace is that Yogitas murder brought justice to many others.
My daughter gave justice to them all.
It was a sacrifice, says Kushali Naik, father of Balika alias Yogita Naik of Ponda, the last victim of alleged serial killer Mahanand Naik.
For the last four months my family has spent sleepless nights. It was a harrowing experience for us. My son had to run from pillar to post in search of his only sister, the darling of the family. My daughter was an epitome of truth, honesty and integrity. She never kept us in the dark about anything in her life, laments Naik.
A day before she disappeared, Yogita had told her father: Pappa, a woman approached me yesterday saying that she has a marriage proposal and that the boy will approach me soon. I dont know who she is, but she looks like she comes from a well-to-do family, recalls her father.I told her that the woman should contact me. The next day, my daughter left for work and on the way she was approached by a boy who expressed his wish to marry her. He told Yogita that the woman who had met her the previous day had told him about her. He also informed her that his parents would observe her while she was at work and asked her to come neatly dressed, Khushali added.
