‘Will save Rs 2cr by ceasing concession’
Panaji: The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) is likely to save close to Rs 2 crore annually after discontinuing the concessional pass system for govt employees, said KTC Chairman, Ulhas Tuenkar.
The KTC started its concessional pass system from 2012 on all its buses, except for AC and luxury vehicles. The system allowed commuters 40% concession on the total monthly fare to general commuters and 70% concession on total monthly fare to senior citizens and students.

As a result, Tuenkar estimates that the annual expenditure on the subsidy will reduce.
“We previously allowed govt employees to avail themselves of KTC concessional passes, exempting them from paying the full fare. However, considering that these employees already receive travel allowance benefits, we have decided to discontinue this pass system for them,” he said.
“KTC has decided to let govt employees retain their passes but they can avail concessional pass benefits only on Saturdays and Sundays,” he said. He assured that the ceasing of concessional passes for govt staff will not affect other existing pass holders.
