: The
Reis Magos gram sabha
on Sunday adopted a resolution to impose a partial ban on plastic bags in the village and also impose a fine on those establishments using plastic bags.
When members questioned
sarpanch
Virendra Shirodkar about his plan to tackle plastic, he said that a partial ban will be imposed on plastic carry bags and a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed for using plastic bags.
For garbage collection, the sarpanch said they have placed separate bins for dry and wet garbage, and suggested that villagers to use these bins and keep the village clean.
He also said cleaning of drains and gutters will be taken up soon.
The gram sabha was initially delayed due to lack of quorum. The sarpanch said that prior notice was given in the newspapers about the meeting.
