MARGAO: Minister for town and country planning
Vijai Sardesai
on Monday expressed his disapproval over the functioning of the
Margao Municipal Council
(MMC) with regards to delivery of services.
Stating that MMC officers need to be accountable, Sardesai promised more hands to the MMC to ease overburdened staff. As regards the failure of the MMC to recover its huge outstanding revenue, he said some of the MMC employees were “beyond redemption” and suggested that the recovery be outsourced to private hands.
The MMC chairperson and deputy belong to the Vijai Sardesai-led GFP.
Sardesai made these statements while speaking to reporters after his first janata durbar at the MMC building. MMC chairperson Babita Prabhudesai and chief officer
Agnelo Fernandes
were present on the occasion.
The technical section, in particular, came in the firing line of the TCP minister. “No resident should be harassed by the MMC for matters pertaining to construction of his dwelling house. If the technical section is harassing you, send me a SMS,” Sardesai told the public.
Voicing his opinion in favour of a common cadre for all municipal employees, he cautioned the civic staff that if they are unable to perform, they should put in their papers.
