MARGAO: Valanka Alemao, daughter of the public works department (PWD) minister Churchill Alemao, is now performing a new role in party politics.
In her first press briefing in her capacity as the spokesperson of the state Congress party in Margao on Friday, the greenhorn in politics chose to take on the senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani over his anti-corruption Jan Chetna Yatra.
Addressing reporters, Valanka said that the BJP had no right to assume a high moral ground on corruption issue and demanded to know why no case has been booked so far against a BJP leader Bangaru Laxman who was indicted in a sting operation in 2001.
Reminding reporters that the former chief minister of Karnataka had to resign over the illegal mining issue, Valanka stressed that the party will take stern action against anybody indicted by the Shah commission that is probing the case of illegal mining in Goa.
"The Shah commission is looking into it. Whoever has done any wrong will be punished. Nobody is above law," Valanka said.
She declined to reply to queries from journalists over the stand of the Congress party over other issues concerning the state, saying that she had no mandate to speak on those issues.
