Solution to coal issue after polls: Mauvin

Panaji: BJP’s South Goa poll campaign chief and Panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday said that

pollution is an issue in Mormugao and his party has assured the voters of addressing it post-election.

People in Mormugao have been agitating against coal handling operations citing pollution.

Godinho opined that the operations should continue, but at the same time pollution and environment concerns will have to be addressed. “Post-election, the government will adopt anti-pollution measures at the port,” he said.

Godinho informed that people raised the coal pollution issue during the campaign and demanded proper measures. He stated that the taluka also faces dust pollution emanating from the shoulder of the roads. Exuding confidence that BJP will win in south Goa as many people joining the party, he said the party doesn’t have a Salcete mission, but it will woo people.

Meanwhile, chief minister Pramod Sawant reiterated on Friday that BJP does not require a mission for Salcete to woo minorities as the people are aware of the various issues addressed by the party.

“Salcete people are our brothers and sisters, and they know very well that only BJP can usher in development,” he said. “This time around, electorate will cast their vote in favour of BJP as they foresee state’s development. When it comes to Lok Sabha elections, they will consider country’s future and not any individual as nation is priority for them,” he said.
