Protests at Vasco over obscene post on Hindu deities
Vasco: Hundreds of Hindu community members staged a massive protest at the Vasco police station on Saturday evening, demanding that authorities trace and locate the individuals who have posted obscene, blasphemous, and highly offensive content against Hindu deities on various social media platforms.
In a complaint addressed to the Vasco police inspector and the cybercrime cell at Ribandar, it was stated that the posts circulating on social media platforms depicting Hindu deities are a clear attempt to incite communal hatred and disturb the peaceful fabric of Goa.
“The contents have violated Section 196 of the BNS (previously Section 153A IPC), which deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, Section 299 of the BNS (previously Section 295A IPC), which pertains to deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and Section 67 of the IT Act, which covers the publishing or transmission of obscene material in electronic form,” the complaint stated.
The Vasco police were urged to register an FIR against the individuals and to identify the source of the obscene content, including tracing the IP addresses and locations of the users, in order to prevent further escalation, and to direct the concerned social media platforms to remove the blasphemous content immediately.
“We have attached the screenshots as evidence with our complaint. We trust the police to act swiftly to maintain law and order and protect religious sentiments of all communities,” the complaint stated.
It also mentioned that, following the recent controversy involving Gautam Khattar, certain individuals are deliberately targeting Hindu religious sentiments by posting derogatory and obscene content about Hindu deities to incite communal tensions in Goa, and therefore police authorities have been urged to take immediate and necessary action against such individuals who are attempting to disturb communal harmony in the state.
