Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar asked why the air-conditioning was not fitted in the newly built stadium. The construction of the stadium cost Rs 43 crore. “We have seen even during the National Games how players were feeling extremely hot. Coolers had to be fitted
,” he said.

While Gaude said that various sports are played at the stadium and that during badminton tournaments, there are specifications to be followed for temperature and airflow, the legislators refused to accept the explanation.

“We will check with a consultant whether the stadium can take the load of air-conditioning. When AC is fitted, the maintenance cost is huge.
I will inspect the space with officials and decide,” he said.

Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said that two to three large fans, costing around Rs 1.5 lakh, can be fitted for relief till the time the decision on air conditioning is taken.
