There were 65 conductors in the batch of 2018, of which only 15 were absorbed into the role of permanent staff by Ganesh Chaturthi this year. The remaining 50 staff are scheduled to be absorbed before Diwali, in Oct.

“At a time, we hire staff only on daily wages, and they are absorbed into a permanent role only when a vacancy is available,” said the KTC chairman.

“Following this, the corporation will take up the 2019 batch in the next round of vacancies,” he added.

In addition, Tuenkar mentioned that the KTC is awaiting the long-pending delivery of electric vehicles (EVs) ordered from Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech Ltd. “We had ordered 150 EVs from them, however, they have only delivered 65 buses at a slow pace and delayed the delivery of the rest. We have demanded that the remaining 85 buses be delivered by Dec,” Tuenkar told TOI.

“The state had also imposed a penalty of Rs 2 crore on the manufacturer for the delay in delivery,” he said.
