IT man killed wife before hanging himself: Cops

PANAJI: A day after a couple were found dead in their Porvorim home — suspected to be a case of double suicide — police have now found that the wife was murdered, allegedly by the husband who then hanged himself.
Porvorim police said on Thursday that the postmortem report of Shimja, 27, who was found dead on the bedroom floor with a water jug by the body’s side, has revealed that she was smothered and strangulated.The police suspect that her husband Dilip Kumar, 30, murdered her and then hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the hall.
“We suspect that the husband first smothered and strangulated his wife and then hanged himself. We have ruled out any foul play as the house was locked from the inside and no one else had entered the house. Also, the husband had left behind a suicide note in Malayalam in which he said he loved his wife a lot, but was depressed with life,” police sources said.
The couple who hailed from Kannur in Kerala, were married since the last nine months and had come to Goa on Tuesday after a holiday in Kerala, police said. Kumar worked for an IT company. Police said that inquiries with neighbours revealed that the couple seemed happy and there were no signs of unhappiness or discontentment with life, raising doubts about the motive of the suicide. Meanwhile, relatives of the couple who arrived in Goa are shocked with the development.
“Shimja’s brother is shocked with what has happened. He told us that the couple always looked happy,” police said.
