Vagator authorities demolish Romeo Lane structure

The Goa district administration demolished a 198 sq m portion of the Romeo Lane restaurant in Vagator, marking the latest action against properties linked to the Luthra brothers. Officials said the teardown targeted beachside encroachments built without permission, following Sunday’s fatal nightclub fire.

2/8

Tourism department confirms encroachment removal

Deputy Director of Tourism Dhiraj Wagale said the demolition focused on illegal structures raised on the beachfront. Machinery and teams were deployed in advance, and the government emphasised that all unauthorised expansions along the coast would face similar action under tourism and land laws.

3/8

Blaze at Birch triggers strict enforcement drive

The demolition comes days after the massive fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora that claimed 25 lives. The tragedy has pushed the Goa government to intensify checks, launch a probe panel and crack down on non-compliant establishments across nightlife hubs ahead of the tourist season.

4/8

Heavy machinery deployed for swift teardown

Demolition teams arrived with excavators, trucks and labour crews to bring down the illegally erected structure. Officials said they aimed to finish the job in a single stretch to prevent interference and to maintain safety along the busy Vagator beach belt.

5/8

Seasonal safety advisories rolled out across Goa

With the tourist season beginning, police have intensified patrolling and started issuing safety instructions to restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Authorities said the renewed monitoring aims to prevent violations, strengthen compliance and avoid a repeat of the Arpora disaster.

6/8

Administration intensifies action with continued demolitions

Following the teardown of Romeo Lane’s beachside encroachments, officials said more inspections are underway across Vagator and Arpora. Teams have identified additional illegal extensions linked to the nightclub operations, and further demolition drives are expected to ensure full compliance with coastal and construction norms.

7/8

Police expand probe beyond state borders

Goa Police escalated the investigation by initiating international coordination to trace the Luthra brothers. Officials confirmed that the owners were outside India and that agencies including Interpol and the CBI have been roped in to assist in locating and securing their return for questioning.

8/8

Tragedy triggers safety checks at nightlife hubs

Following the nightclub tragedy, officials launched simultaneous inspections of safety systems across popular party spots. Fire equipment, exit routes, structural integrity and licences are being verified as authorities move to enforce strict compliance standards.
