2 lads injured as traffic cops play heroes

PANAJI: Two boys travelling on a bike sustained minor injuries when cops tried to stop them in the middle of the road for riding without a helmet.
Siddesh Naik (17) - who had a learner's licence - and Vaibhav Naik (22) the pillion were proceeding from Panaji to Porvorim on Sunday when the cops stopped them on the Mandovi bridge. Top officials of the traffic cell however said that there was no deliberate attempt to scare the youngsters.But Vaibhav said, "We were halfway on the bridge when a traffic cop came and tried to stop us by raising his hand. We got scared and skidded, thereby sustaining minor injuries."
Vaibhav added, "The traffic cops then checked our licence and without issuing any chalan, allowed us to proceed."
