ERODE: A three-year-old girl died and 10 people were injured after a tourist van rammed into a tamarind tree near Andhiyur in Erode district on Sunday.

The deceased, S Mahashri, was daughter of V Sampath Kumar, 28, and Kokila, 22, of Sennapatty near Andhiyur.

The van carrying 16 people left Sennapatty around 4.30am on Sunday and was heading to Melmaruvathur Amman temple, said a police officer attached with the Vellithiruppur station. K Gowtham, 27, of Kolathur in Salem district, was at the wheel. “When the van neared Murali Pirivu area around 4.45am, the driver lost his control over the vehicle. It rammed into a roadside tamarind tree and fell on its side. The toddler died on the spot,” the officer said. The toddler’s parents and seven others were injured in the incident.

Police sent the injured people to the Andhiyur GH. All of them were discharged by the end of the day. TNN
