Woman arrested 11 years after murder case in Najafgarh
New Delhi: Eleven years after she was allegedly involved in the murder of a man during a neighbourhood quarrel that went out of hand, a 41-year-old woman was arrested. While her co-accused were caught at the time, she was untraceable and was declared a proclaimed offender. The deceased, identified as Ravi, intervened when the accused, identified as Parveen alias Preeti, got into an argument with his relative on July 30, 2014, in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh.Ravi's relative, Vineet, was reportedly filling a tank using water from a submersible pump, and some of it accidentally fell onto the neighbour's side. Angered by this, Parveen called her husband Suresh, and both started abusing and assaulting Vineet, police said. In retaliation, several people, including Ravi, tried to protect Vineet. Suresh also called others to support him.Police said the men called by Suresh arrived with a knife, an iron pipe, a stick and a broken baseball bat and attacked the other side. Ravi was allegedly stabbed to death by a person identified as Sandeep. He was pinned down and the knife was twisted into his chest. The accused fled the spot after the attack.Suresh's associates were identified as Sandeep, Rahul, Vikrant, Mukesh and Sagar. Along with Suresh, they were arrested. Parveen was not found. "The team got a tip-off that she was hiding in Haryana's Jhajjar, and had kept moving and changing her phone number to evade arrest," DCP (crime) Harsh Indora said. She was traced and arrested on Friday. She told police that after the arrest of her husband, she ran away with her minor son and remained in hiding at relatives' homes in Haryana. She had come to her parents in Jhajjar's Malikpur village along with her son when the police were tipped off.
