One minor among three held for stealing Rs 50L by posing as cops
New Delhi: A day after a man making a cash delivery of Rs 50 lakh was allegedly robbed by two men posing as police officers in outer Delhi’s Pitampura, the men were arrested and a minor boy was apprehended in connection with the case.
According to police, a complaint was received from a resident of Rajasthan on Saturday at the Mangolpuri police station. The man claimed that he was going to Pitampura with a friend to hand over Rs 9 lakh in cash given by his owner when two people pretending to be police officers approached them and started questioning them before taking the bag containing the money.
The man also reported that the accused told them not to leave the spot, claiming that senior police officers were on the way, before fleeing on a bike. The complainant managed to note down the bike number, police said, adding that he later confirmed that the stolen amount was Rs 50 lakh, which he had earlier not stated due to fear.
A case was registered under sections 204 (personating a public servant), 319 (cheating by personation), 318 (cheating) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the BNS.
“Teams were constituted and CCTV footage was analysed. Manual and technical efforts were made to trace the accused,” said DCP (outer) Vikram Singh. “Based on technical surveillance and tip-offs, three of the accused were identified.”
The accused — identified as Vinay (20), Kuldeep (30) and a minor — were nabbed from Sonipat, Haryana.
Police have recovered Rs 33.5 lakh in cash and the bag in which the cash was stolen . Two mobile phones purchased from the cheated amount and a motorcycle used in the crime have also been seized.
